About Not Just Keto & Amy Cherry
After being diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease at the age of 41, I took matters into my own hands and decided that as a nurse, I knew medications were not going to change the course of my disease progression. Knowing that medications simply mask symptoms, the only other alternative I had was food. To quote Hippocrates, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food,” this became my mantra. I quickly discovered a few pioneers in the field of the ketogenic diet, and its relevance to neurology and neuroprotection; some with Parkinson’s Disease and others being physicians.
I tried the ketogenic diet, which I still currently maintain, as well as intermittent fasting. What I did not anticipate was the breadth of knowledge in regards to this way of eating. I learned how the Ketogenic and low carb way of eating has helped people with a myriad of disease states ranging from diabetes and obesity to polycystic ovarian syndrome, and I have used this information to help others.
The purpose of this website is essentially a journey of my culinary adventures to help me document my discoveries while hopefully inspiring other people to take control of their health and to show people that low-carb food is not only healthy but can taste amazing.
